May Newsletter

Hello Classic Ridge,

Welcome to our first newsletter for the Classic Ridge Trail Access Campaign.

First, We recently launched a website (Thanks Idealist Consulting for the support)!  We encourage you to share with your friends and family.

Second, we are looking for those that can write blog posts about:

1) Previous experience accessing the the beach from Classic Ridge.

2) Your opinion on the recent closure.

3) Home value decrease as a result of the trail closure.

4) Other thoughtful topics related to the trail closure.

250-500 words is ideal. Send us your post and we will review for posting on the website (With some minor edits)

Third,  We have written the City of Manzanita regardin the trail closures. Kristen Grasseth is willing to bring the trail issue up at the city council meeting May 6th. We encourage you to write to her (kgrasseth@ci.manzanita.or.us) and all the members of the city government prior to that meeting about your concerns. (Thanks for your help on this Laurie!)

Fourth, We have informed Cynthia Almillo-Maz. City Manager, Nehalem Bay Waste Water, ALL 7 of the Tillamook Co commissioners, to addresses the issue.  (Thanks again for your effort Lauri!)

Fifth, If you are interested in supporting this effort as a volunteer let us know and we will make sure to involve you where we can.  You can sign up on our new web site or just reply to this email! We are looking for folks to canvas the neighborhood to ensure our neighbors know they have a voice in the matter.

Sixth, We are in talks with David Mathews of Pete Anderson Realty who is representing the owners of the property.  He has been vague about whether or not he instigated the fencing or if he is legally representing the sellers.  That said, you can reach out to him directly if you have questions.  He has been quick to reply and may be reached at: djm@nehalemtel.net

Last but not least, We have three options moving forward...

1) Work with the existing property owners to provide access to the beach.  This would likely come in the form of a Private Easement

2) Lobby with municipality to authorize passage on the grounds of, Safety (Easement by Necessity) , Accessibility (Easement by Utility), or Community (Adverse Possession).

3) Build a new trail. There seem to be a couple of access points that are potential locations and we will be exploring those should options one or two prove to be less successful.

Thanks all for your support and stay tuned!
