For Safety, Access and Community
Our Mission and Our Story
The Classic Ridge Community (and surrounding neighborhoods) represent roughly 200 households. In late April 2020 all direct beach access was cut off (Represent by green dotted line) due to closing of the dune access on Cherry St and the barbed wire fencing of two properties that span The Doris Davis Trail (Aka utility trail) that had been accessible for the last 40 years.
This left the Classic Ridge community with three options:

Discover
a common-ground with the existing property owners to provide access to the beach. This would likely come in the form of a Private Easement. We are doing all we can to have a thoughtful conversation with the owners of the associated properties.
Lobby
with municipality to authorize passage through a designated property base on the grounds of:
Safety (Easement by Necessity)
Accessibility (Easement by Utility)
Community (Adverse Possession)
Build
a new trail. There are a couple of access points that are potential locations and we will be exploring those should options one or two prove to be less successful.

The goal of the Trail Access Campaign is to get beach access from Classic Ridge. Ideally this is through the traditional trails we have used over the course of the last 40 years but we are open to reasonable alternatives. If you wish to join our volunteer effort please sign up on our get involved page.
The Trail Access Campaign does not endorse any person communicating issues related to this trail closure with the affected property owners, unless they are authorized to do so through the Trail Access Campaign Committee. Moreover, the Trail Access Campaign does not endorse trespassing or vandalism of any sort.
